Dear English language…

Please can we have an alternative text form, than normal, bold and italics? Backwards italics, maybe? A quick search tells me that they do exist, but not in most ordinary fonts of the kind that will work on Amazon’s Kindle or other eReaders.

Why do I need one? Oh, it’s the voices again. I’ve got the contemplative voice in italics, but also people’s emails and text messages in italics. Too many italics, trying to denote too many things!

Commas are still a bugbear, too. I either seem to have too few of them, or too many. I would like some strict rules, for a happy medium.

Wikipedia has some. I should read them.
