I’ve had feedback now (one complaint, to be precise) about the sound quality of my recordings, so I’ve sent this to the group:
Just to say, I know the sound recording isn’t to a professional standard on these recordings and it’s not meant to be.
I’m recording for two reasons. Firstly, because I’ve been told by some of you that you only do audio book “reading” now, so it was the only way to share the book with you. Secondly, it gives me a different perspective on the work I’ve done, so that I can edit it more effectively. That’s why you can hear the clicks of me editing, as I read.
I hope these imperfections aren’t too annoying for you. If so, there’s always the old fashioned version, to read-read, if you want it, somewhere up there. Let me know if you’re struggling to find it. I can post it again.
If I do the Audible version myself, we’ll use microphone filters, sound proofing, proper sound editing and all that professional stuff, rest assured. And I might not do it myself.
Telling you all this because I’ve had some feedback about sound quality. I’d love your feedback on the story, the characters, whether it’s boring, which bits you liked or didn’t like etc. Given that you’re all a lot younger than my target market, you probably are finding it a bit boring and that’s okay.
I still haven’t had much about the content, which is what I really need. I still can’t work out whether they’re..
- not engaging much at all. Busy lives, etc;
- reading or listening and hating it, but not wanting to say so; or
- reading or listening and quite enjoying it, but not telling me for some reason!
I think it’s probably the first of those three. A key drawback to self publishing for a new author, probably.
