My snail’s pace crawl through History Maps 1: User Interface reached chapter 27 this morning. Nearly two thirds of the way through. I have struggled with this final edit process for a variety of reasons:
– It’s not my favourite book of the three I’ve written so far for this series;
– I’ve got ADHD, so I have to drink green tea and tackle it one chapter a day and the very first thing in the morning, so that the words don’t jump around on the page; and
– The very fact that it’s a final edit gives me a mountain of anxiety to climb over before I even begin. Final means final, which means – soon – publishing 😱
BUT – chapter 27 is, I have to say, a pleasure of a chapter to read, to edit and to remind myself I actually wrote that. Me. I did.
I want to tell you about it, but I don’t want to plot-spoil, but I guess I can say some of it.
Our protagonist, Zoe, is having a roof-top restaurant meeting with someone who dismissed her idea early on and, now that it’s becoming successful, wants in. She has to make them eat humble pie, even though what they’re actually eating is pretty much the exact opposite of humble pie.
Damn. Why didn’t I use that line??!
It’s okay, I didn’t need to. What I wrote… did the job.
